A legend of base jumping takes leap of faith -- his last - Los Angeles Times

A legend of base jumping takes leap of faith -- his last - Los Angeles Times: "In 1966, Brian Schubert and a buddy strapped parachutes to their backs and leaped off Yosemite's 3,000-foot-high El Capitan cliff — and unwittingly inspired the worldwide extreme sport of base jumping.

A blurry snapshot captured the stunt that broke both of Schubert's legs. At the time, people who knew parachutes thought the two guys were nuts.

Schubert spent the next decades in anonymity, raising a family and working as a Pomona police officer. He retired as a respected lieutenant.

On Saturday, Schubert strapped on a parachute and made his first jump in 40 years. Before 145,000 spectators, his daughter and his old El Capitan jumping partner, Schubert leaped off a bridge to his death."

Can a Jamaican take Cali?

Well, I was just surfing the blogs this afternoon and ran across a nice one in the luck of the draw. Have a look, I think Aarond's knows the los as in vasas los. A nice read. See if you agree.

Been about two Weeks

Flying. I need to get out flying. It's been about two weeks. I'm due.
I'm feeling a little light. I might take-off at any moment. The world is my oyster.
Gear up. Go out and get some air. The motorcycle is a great ride, but it's not the same deal. Sure, I'm out in the wind, but not UP in the wind. Time to go fly.

Jazzfest 2006

Bruce Erion - American Flyer

First is this shot of our #1 Fearless Leader, Bruce Erion, having just put down his rather patriotic wing and doing a fair version of Stars and Stripes Forever...

So this weekend was a hoot. I made it to middle Georgia for the Lake Oconee Jazz Festival. Was it ever fun. We had about a dozen flyers again this year and to top the cake we were just across the road from the festival. I mean literally, we were on a rise only a few hundered feet from the music. Lots of folks stopped by to visit and we had a pretty good idea that we were well liked. I got in a few flights, had almost three days with good friends, and really hated to see it all come to an end. Oh well, there's always next year.
